FFoQSI Annual Assembly 2024

FFoQSI hybrid event: a review

 

On November 12, 2024, the annual meeting of FFoQSI took place, which was held both on-site at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna and online. The event provided a platform for partners and colleagues to exchange the latest research results and innovations in the field of food quality and safety.

 

The program highlights were:

Preharvest Innovation: Under the direction of Julian Weghuber, topics such as the interaction between cultivated plants and microorganisms were discussed.

Postharvest Innovation: Viktoria Neubauer moderated this section, which focused on improving the processing properties of einkorn and quantifying cheese spoilage bacteria.

Smart Technologies: Stephan Hann led through presentations on sustainable food processing and packaging as well as advanced methods for toxin control.

Non-K-Aktivitäten: Martin Wagner led this part, presenting projects such as FoodSafeR and Regioplants.

And the FFoQSI Awards goes to:

A Best Poster Award, a Best Paper Award and the Benchmark Champ were announced among all FFoQSI researchers.

The Best Poster Award was intended to recognize the best scientific poster showing an ongoing or completed FFoQSI project related to the year 2024. Among the submissions, two posters convinced the International Advisory Board:

Area 1 | Gabriela Nagl-Neuhold: Lab-Scale Myxomycete Biomass Production: The foundation for exploring their antagonistic potential
Area 3 | Eva Voglauer: Listeria monocytogenes is able to colonize and hide in a multi-species biofilm

The Best Paper Award recognizes the most cited FFoQSI paper published in 2023. The awards went to:

  • Cameron R. Strachan, FFoQSI & Vedmeduni
  • Marianna Giancaterino (i.V. Julian Fischer), FFoQSI & BOKU

As part of the subsequent Strategy Board 2024, the current status quo was discussed among the StB members and the future strategic direction was determined.

The FFoQSI Annual Assembly 2024 was a great success and provided valuable insights into current research topics and innovations.
