Honorary Member of the Royal Irish Academy

FFoQSI Area Leader Rudolf Krska receives Ireland's highest academic award.

05/2023. FFoQSI Area Leader Prof. Rudolf Krska accepted as honorary member of the Royal Irish Academy of Sciences

The FFoQSI Area Leader and Head of the Institute of Bioanalytics at the BOKU Department IFA-Tulln, Univ.Prof. Rudolf Krska, received a special honor in the Irish capital Dublin on May 26th, 2023: The President of the Royal Irish Academy awarded him honorary membership of the Irish Academy of Sciences, which was founded by charter in Dublin in 1785. The Academy supports research and teaching and has 470 members who are selected for their outstanding contributions to science and research. Membership is by election and is considered the highest academic honor in Ireland. Members of the Irish Academy include the approximately 90 distinguished honorary members, which now include Rudolf Krska. In the Academy's history, only ten Austrians, including Erwin Schrödinger, have ever received this high honor.

About the researcher
Krska holds a professorship at the Institute for Global Food Security at Queen's University in Belfast in addition to his main job as a professor at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna. The former head of Health Canada's food research in Ottawa has also led strategic research at the FFoQSI Center of Excellence for Food Safety since 2017. In this field, Krska is one of the most cited researchers in the world. In 2015, he was named Distinguished Professor of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Prof. Rudolf Krska has received 15 scientific awards and is (co-)author of more than 470 SCI publications, which have been cited 20,000 times. 90 of these articles were written in cooperation with (Northern) Irish partners. This year also saw the publication of his first popular science book "Toxin-free Food?" (published by Picus Verlag).
